In the event of an emergency of any nature, upon activation by the Dale County Emergency Management Agency Director, amateur radio operators stand ready to assist in communications in whatever capacity needed. This is made possible by an active group of radio amateurs (hams) who devote their time and equipment to public service for the people of Dale County.
The Amateur Radio Emergency Service or ARES is an organization, coordinated by the American Radio Relay League, or ARRL, to help local groups provide communications in the event of emergencies. The Dale County ARES maintains an amateur radio station in the E.M.A. office, and has the call sign of K4OZK. This station is activated whenever threatening weather endangers the area. Volunteer hams know to monitor the Ozark repeater, KA4AFI, on 146.98 Mhz, for activation information.
